As Valentine’s Day approaches we are inundated with displays of heart-shaped candies, chocolates and little stuffed animals. Candies and chocolates are beautiful and taste good but they provide empty calories. How about celebrating with something healthy this year?
Consider beautifully prepared fresh fruits for your sweetheart celebration. Fruits are nature’s candy. All fruits have fiber, vitamins and minerals along with the sweet flavor most people are craving. Florida strawberries are still in season and many other fruits are starting to become available this month.
These sweet treats are simple and nutritious. This recipe is so easy that your kids will enjoy making them with you and eating them. Try these frozen treats for all ages from the young to the young at heart.
Equipment needed
Blender
1 heart shaped ice cube tray
Fork
Spoon
Strawberry Hearts
2 medium, ripe organic bananas
1 pint organic strawberries
3 tablespoons lime juice
1 tablespoon dried coconut
Peel bananas, break into small pieces and set them onto a plate. Mash the bananas with a fork until they are the consistency of baby food. De-stem and wash strawberries. Add bananas first, then strawberries and lime to the blender. If there isn’t enough liquid to turn the blade add a little more lime juice. Spoon the mixture into heart shaped ice cube trays. Clean your blender and make a second batch with the following ingredients in the same manner.
Blueberry Hearts
2 medium, ripe organic bananas

Top with a pinch of shredded coconut and freeze until you are ready to serve.
